Topic:

"Artificial Intelligence in Education: Innovation, Equity, and Ethics"

Committee Overview

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping education worldwide, marking a profound transformation in how societies teach and learn in the 21st century. AI tools can personalize content to meet each student's needs, expand access to quality resources globally, and even support teachers by automating administrative tasks. Moreover, these technologies can detect learning difficulties early, offering opportunities for timely intervention and more inclusive learning environments.

However, these innovations also bring pressing challenges. The digital divide prevents equal access to technology, particularly in developing regions. Concerns about data privacy, surveillance, and algorithmic bias raise questions about the ethical use of AI. Additionally, disparities in infrastructure and resources between countries threaten to widen existing educational inequalities, risking a future where technology benefits some while excluding others.

For UNESCO, which upholds education as a universal right, this debate is vital. The international community must determine how to harness AI as a tool for equity, not division.
